Kaltura – Community Video Production and Editing

by Kevin Polley on August 18, 2008

Video editing and production just took a huge leap forward thanks to a company called Kaltura. How?

Imagine 100’s of people being able to upload a video through this page and then being able to edit the ‘finished’ video to produce a derivative video.

Well imagine no more. It’s now a reality.

I’m not 100% sure how it all works (or even if it will work on this page) but I’m giving it a try. Why?

Because the uses and potential are … huge.  Here’s the first video I’ve uploaded.  You should be able to edit it and add to it – if I’ve got it right.

You may need to press the remix button twice but playing with this is awesome.

Thanks Kevin! Looks like you’ve got the hang of it. If anyone else is interested in using the Kaltura WordPress plugin, they can download it here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/kaltura-interactive-video

This might not sound like it is too big of a deal, but it really is. I think a service like this has the potential to change how videos are created and distributed. This is something to keep an eye on.

Due to the fact that some people are rude, abusive, have the brains of a rocking horse and think it funny to add offensive material. I’ve turned off the facility allowing anyone to play with the video.

If you would like to try it out please let me know.

looks cool the idea of sharing the creation of video could be a nice idea.

Truly it’s another evlotution of videos that would contribute with the whole web 2.0 thing. It could definitely create new viral videos. But if you want to play it with the big guys online better be producing some really quality video productions.
