\r\nDepending on what you want to happen after someone has watched your video will dictate the script.\r\n\r\nA good tactic once you've written the script is to get someone to read the it out loud. First read it through from start to finish. Did it flow?\r\n\r\nNext read it line by line and then paragraph by paragraph to try and isolate the strong and weak points making notes as you go. Only after you have read it through out LOUD and you know where changes need to be made, should you start your first rewrite.\r\n\r\nApart from the obvious 'speech' stumbling blocks (where what you've written doesn't sound quite right or loses flow) also keep an eye on the amount of time it takes to read it through from start to finish. You are doing this for two main reasons.\r\n

  2. You don't want to bore your viewers in to having negative thoughts about you or your product.

\r\nKeep in mind that if your video is for web viewing, most people tend to lose focus after three to five minutes so unless your script is highly engaging and interesting they won't get to you punch line.\r\n\r\nIt might be a good idea to think about a 30 - 60 second trailer video highlighting all of the real benefits of your product with a link to the full length video so they can watch more if they want to. While it shows that John's idea was great it also shows that the competition and the potential problems are mounting as well. Just read what he says about the black hat methods affecting genuine blogrush users.\r\n\r\nAll in all I like the idea of BlogRush but I can't understand how John can justify saying that all members sites will be manually checked. That's going to cost like how much? And blogrush is a free service ...\r\n\r\nThen there were the concerns that BlogRush was neither accepted or rejected by Google and that your adsense earnings could be at risk. Depending on which posts and information you read this is either true or a lie. The principle being is that BR skirts a very thin line in the type of service it is.\r\n\r\nAt the moment it's s good idea with problems that are being sorted out. The problem is that as a user I want to see results or that widget is just a waste of space.\r\n\r\nWith all of the problems it also makes it that much harder to get other people to sign up for something and that affects how successful BR will be for you and me.\r\n\r\nI hope that John and the team get things sorted out quickly. Make that very quickly or I'm going to have to remove the widget from my blog and use the space for something that does what it says on the tin.\r\n\r\nAt the very least I can fill it with an ad or two. "The Hidden Real Cost of Rights Packages - A Warning" . "This is a warning for anyone who has ever bought resale and usage rights for templates, artwork or image packs. Ignore it at you peril.\r\n\r\nI'm pretty angry right now and I can't name names because of legal issues (mores the pity) but the bottom line is that there are some 'marketers' out there who are acting illegally and you and me are the ones that will end up paying.\r\n\r\nHere's why.\r\n\r\nThese 'marketers' provide you, me (and whoever else) with packages to use or resell as our own. These packages contain images that are in fact licensed by another company and these 'marketers' don't actually have the right to even use them. Let alone sell them or give them away. And don't get me started on what will happen if you actually sell a licensed image. Even by mistake.\r\n\r\nHow does it cost you money?\r\n\r\nApparently the laws concerning intellectual property, copyright and licensing makes NO allowance. The person who displays or uses a licensed image has to pay a fee. Even if they have paid for usage or resale 'rights' to anyone other than the actual license holder. Let me tell you that these fees are thousands of dollars PER image.\r\n\r\nIn my case (and many of you reading), I would NEVER knowingly use an image that belonged to someone else or I didn't believe I have the rights to use. I thought that when you paid for something you had the rights. Well ... that is wrong.\r\n\r\nWhat's worse?\r\n\r\nI started going through some of the template, PLR and other 'rights' packages I've bought since 2002. Not many, just 14. And then I stopped because out of those 14 that I checked, 9 of them contained images or PARTS of images that I have now seen available for licensing.\r\n\r\nI've seen them as individual graphics, header graphics and even in book covers. What this means is that I can't use this artwork because if I do, I'm at risk of being asked to pay substantial sums of money and so are you.\r\n\r\nHow did it happen?\r\n\r\nAssuming that these 'marketers' didn't deliberatly or knowingly break the law, I can only imagine this problem started with people who put together 'clipart' packs back in 2003 and maybe even before that.\r\n

  • The original sinners scraped together images from here and there, bundled the images together and offered these 'packs' for sale with dubious claims and copy about what they could be used for.

  • Other people then bought them and created derivative products.

  • Later still, other people bought the derivative products, which now had additional claimed 'rights' and they used them. Either selling them as is or creating even more derivative products.

  • Then ... other people started giving away the derivatives of the derivative containing the original images which brings us to today.

\r\nWhat's The Bottom Line.\r\n\r\nUnless you have a REAL license [from the ORIGINAL rights holder] and if you use or display any PART of of a licensed image. YOU may end up having to pay thousands of dollars.\r\n\r\nWhat's the answer?\r\n\r\nShort of deleting every product that 'may' be affected, just in case (and that's lots). I'm not 100% sure. All I know for sure is that I won't be buying any more rights packages until the marketers prove to my satisfaction that everything is 100% legal.\r\n\r\nWhat's more, I want to start seeing the better marketers do more than give me a money back guarantee. I want to see marketers guarantee that they will pay my fees and costs if they screw up. In an ideal world a change in the law is needed to protect the end user in cases like this but I can't see that happening.\r\n\r\nI can't see this problem going away either and with technological advances in scanning images and text, it is getting easier for the big companies who actually hold the rights to find the 'end user' (you and me) and take action against them.\r\n\r\nTheir attitude is simple:\r\n

I didn't catch your name. Such incorrect terms sometimes derived their names because of the form, action, or origin of the subject\u0097becoming named popularly or widely referenced\u0097long before their true natures were known.\r\n\r\nI don't know what triggered this train of thought but I've got it and I'm in the mood to write.\r\n\r\nYou see for some reason I've got a bug in my head about the concept of blogging mixed with marketing to make it an automatic process. I know the two do mix and people are making money but ...\r\n\r\nHere's my mental paradox:\r\n\r\nPart of it's to do with ethics, Blogging and Web 2.0 is all about people. Giving people the ability to mix and interact with others who share information on common interests. It's about building communities and making friends and contacts. Marketing got bolted on to it because people were blogging.\r\n\r\nMarketing is all about driving people towards taking an action which normally involves spending hard earnt cash and a basic human trait, (well a trait I've got and the last time I looked I was human) is that we all try to get the best deal possible ... and if possible ... something 'free'.\r\n\r\nSo far so good.\r\n\r\nNow this where the rosy glow of blog marketing begins to start losing its shine for me. At least in the longer term as it's presented in a few posts and emails I've come across. \r\nEveryone is (or was or should be) in to this thing called the long tail. The Money Words that people use, that are associated with profit and how they are related to SEO (search engine optimisation). Right?\r\n\r\nWell not quite.\r\n\r\nIf you haven't heard of 'the long tail', it's a great book by Chris Anderson that you should probably read if you haven't already - if only to get a proper understanding of 'it' and how 'it' can relate to your SEO requirements.\r\n\r\nIt's not that the book tells you how to implement long tail seo because it doesn't but more how it could open up your mind to the concepts and future possiblities and how you then decide to manipulate that knowledge in to your business model.\r\n\r\nThere also seems to be information floating around, which when put together in a logical way suggests that when you smatter niche, long tail money words into some supporting text (which in turn is surrounded by adverts and links to affiliate products), that you can make money. And it's been proven that you can. But .... there is a but!\r\n\r\nMy understanding of how 'part' of the long tail model affects the web 2.0 marketing model, is that it's driven by people who want what they want, when they want it. They even know why they want it and how they want it delivered.\r\n\r\nAs the first sentence of the main product review at Amazon says\r\n
\"What happens when there is almost unlimited choice? When everything becomes available to everyone? And when the combined value of the millions of items that only sell in small quantities equals or even exceeds the value of a handful of best-sellers?\"
\r\nThe long tail is about people having personal and infinate choice on a global basis and web 2.0 has made it easy for people from around the world to get together, share experiences and save money or time. That's social networking.\r\n\r\nLet me give you a recent example.\r\n\r\nI wanted to get some specialist software. I wanted it the next day if possible. I couldn't get it.\r\n\r\nIn fact, all bar one company I approached said they would have to put it on order for me, as it was part of a larger package that they couldn't afford to stock. (it's obviously a very popular software ;) )\r\nThanks to the search engines, I was able to find a company in the US that would sell me the single package I wanted and because of the exchange rate, I saved just over $160 (\u00A380), even after I'd paid customs duty and 48 hour shipping costs.\r\n\r\nThis company didn't try to add long tail words to their website. They were just there because it was a well established company in a niche sector. They had a dedicated support forum but more importantly someone answered the phone when I called to double check the stock levels shown on the site.\r\n
\"Why have you got so many?\" - \"Oh we sell maybe 20 or 30 packages a year on their own but we give the current package away as part of our 10 year support deal and also with our advanced ??? product. We have to keep them in stock!\"
\r\nThe long tail tells me that someone, somewhere in the world has exactly what I want. It also tells me that depending on how much background research I'm prepared to do, it will also affect the price I actually end up paying.\r\n\r\nLong Tail Fact or Fiction?\r\n\r\nHere's another thing I've read. The biggest money in the long tail is the specialist or niche marketplace. The high value, low volume services and products.\r\n\r\nWell ... again yes, in part. But. (again) No.\r\n
The long tail is mainly about the thousands of little amounts that add up as the volume of your sales grow.
\r\nThe key examples in the book are the digital music and book retailers, who by virtue of the fact they were able to offer more stock, without having to hold a physical stock pile to meet demand, were able to attract more individual purchases.\r\n\r\nAdvancements in print on demand technology combined with data storage and transit improvements made the long-tail model work. They were able to cater to mass niche target groups, with highly selective tastes.\r\n\r\nIt was about how allowing 'users' to make thier own definitions for something, increased thier understanding of profiling. How allowing the user to try before buying and posting thoughts increased overall sales. How monitoring the user input led to a change of target market and focus.\r\n\r\nIf you've got 10 products, you're are selling one a day and you want to make $1000 a day. Each product has to sell at $100.\r\n\r\nIf you've got 1000 products selling one a day, even if you only charge a $1 a pop. You're now making $1000 a day with no physical delivary costs and no real additional overheads.\r\n\r\nIf the market rate is $10 a pop you can then afford to offer obscure, old, out of date, unheard of, unique ... things that sell once a year because there are no storage costs. If you can then deliver when someone wants what you have on offer. Wham - a long tail sale.\r\n\r\nI'll get back to the contradiction in my head in a sec. But, while I've got the bug let me 'try' and ... explain how I see long tail money words.\r\n\r\nHave a read through these. I think you'll get the jist. Just imagine someone's train of thought or search process. The 'results' are totally made up but give you a 'flavor' of an average mental search track.\r\n\r\nI want a [product-keyword]. - 1,345,000 pages - \"Wow, way to many. What do I want\"\r\n\r\nI want a [colour] [product-keyword]. - 945,000 pages - \"Jeez. So many naff sites and the ones at the top look expensive.\"\r\n\r\nI want a [colour] [size] [product-keyword]. - 24,258 pages - \"Thank you. I'm starting to get there. I didn't realise I had this much choice.\"\r\n\r\nI want a [size] [product-keyword] [colour] under [current-best-price]. - 3,825 pages : - \"Wow if they're all this much of a muchness I might as well see what's really on offer. Also I've spotted some dodgy looking sites trying to make a quick buck. What about long term support?\"\r\n\r\nNow I want a [size] [product-keyword] [colour] with the [optional-extras] and [support-package]. - 149 pages - \"OK! A few sites keep cropping up. Only a few I felt good about though. Are there any local companies hidden further down?\"\r\n\r\nNow I want a [size] [product-keyword] [colour] with the [optional-extras] and [support-package] in [region] or [town] - 5 pages - \"Great. Now I can go look at, touch one and see. Just to make sure it's what I want. (here's the killer) - I'll phone them all up now to see who's got it in stock.\"\r\n\r\nProvided your man at the shop knows how to close a sale, and it's not too out of the 'acceptable mental price range'. That site should be credited with having performed as it should. It had all the right words somewhere that were 'important at the time' to 'that particular customer'.\r\n\r\nWhat if your man at the shop only had [lessor-support-package]?\r\n\r\nWould his site have even show up in the search results?\r\n\r\nWill the potential buyer now go home and order from a competitor online in a different region?\r\n\r\nHere's one part of my contradiction:\r\n
My example above supposes a physical product and I didn't say the the site I found was a web 2.0 enabled website. The long tail was about digital discovery and how we can integrate the knowledge we continue to learn, into a real business. Running a blog is not a real business per se - A blog is afterall only a publishing tool that we are using as a sales aid. So maybe ... perhaps ... blog and marketing are good together after all. But even then .... a few lsi or long tail power words added to a page won't make me buy.
\r\nFor what it's worth, I think the long tail effect, as it can be applied to basic SEO that we can safely use is this.\r\n
If you want to make money with long tail words you must always remember you are dealing with a real person who know's what they want or want's to know what they need.\r\n\r\nJust having the right words on the page to influence the search bots does not mean you will 'fool' a potential customer. You are wasting your time if you only want to get good high search results.
\r\nAlso, knowing what 'long tail type' of keyword to use to suit your site model will make all the difference and let's not forget that technological advancements don't stay secret for long. Sometimes 'better the devil you know' is a great plan.\r\n\r\nThe search engine companies know what they want and they've asked for it. Give them the good quality information they can present to their searchers. Information that answers your visitor's concerns about your site and your understanding of their needs and the long tail will find you naturally.\r\n\r\nThe fact that blogs can be automated doesn't mean they should be because you need a real person to buy something if you want to make cash. Search bots are skint.\r\n\r\nJust remember: long tail lsi money word search reliability tracking is constantly evolving but good basic original and informative content is forever.\r\n\r\nAnd finally ....\r\n\r\nMy mental paradox about blogs and 'automatic' web 2.0 marketing being a misnomer:\r\n\r\nIf blogging and Web 2.0 is all about giving people the ability to mix and interact with others who share information on common interests. Peter Kafka of Silicon Alley Insider reported earlier that Myspace was joining the Google OpenSocial movement. I can only imagine how much bandwidth is required for the viewable size and the speed at which they are streaming even with good video optimisation.\r\n\r\nEven if you are not interested in how to build viral profits into your business, you will be very interested in the video quality. I can only urge you to see for yourself what can be achieved with online video.\r\n\r\nAs with all launches, Tim has run into a couple of teething problems which were overcome. "Producing screen capture videos used to be quite expensive with Camtasia being the software of choice for many PC users. At over $300 it was not affordable for some. Well that's all changed.\r\n\r\nWatching video online has become as normal as watching TV and for some , watching video online is even more popular than TV. Let's face it, your choice is vast. This shift in perceptions is one of the reasons a few software developers started to come up with free and low cost screen capture alternatives.\r\n\r\nCamstudio is probably one of the better known free offerings in this software sector but as you would expect it has a few weaknesses compared to paid for products. The basic principle is that you have to put up lots of PPC campaigns which direct visitors to CPA or affiliate offers. It's a numbers game. The more you do the better your chance of success.\r\n\r\nThe downside with Shadow is you need to have a budget to spend on your PPC ads in the first place (and then be able to wait for your commission to be paid)\r\n\r\nThe plus side is that the Shadow software does make it quick and easy (once you've learnt how to use it - an hour or so) to post multiple ad campaigns and ad groups.\r\n\r\nThere have been successes and failures in the program but there is a vibrant community forum. From my own experiences there are a lot more failures than successes BUT ... when you find a winner, you REALLY find a winner.\r\n\r\nI don't know your skill levels but one thing keeps coming through time and time again. While you would get more exposure the flip side is increased administration.\n\nThe answer to your question about managing your own affiliate program is why affiliate networks exist, they take away all of that hassle, they deal with the charge-backs etc etc. When you pay your affiliates is up to you but without adequate tracking and acct management in place you could end up paying your affiliate and then repaying a buyer with no way of getting the commission back from the affiliate. \n\nThe other thing to consider is trust. e.g. I don't know you from Adam and how do I know you will pay me if I spend time and cash generating sales for you?
